KELLY NACK (she/her)

Owner / Doula / Photographer/Artist

Hey there! I'm Kelly, and I'd love to be your doula & photographer.

I've fallen in love with the world of birth. But maybe not for the reasons you'd imagine. I mean, babies are adorable - breathtakingly so - but I'm more interested in the birthers. Those amazing humans who are growing a new tiny human, ushering it earth-side, and becoming something brand new themselves in the process. They are incredible. You are incredible.

A little about my journey

Before becoming a doula, I'd spent a decade and a half as a graphic designer and wedding photographer. I'd been married for five years and working from home in the Detroit area, and wanted so badly to start a family. But it wasn't coming easily for us. My journey to parenthood included years of infertility, rounds of IVF and egg donation, and early pregnancy losses. Eventually, I was blessed to experience parenthood through becoming a foster and adoptive mom. And then - quite unexpectedly - I became a bio mom (twice!).

I was both overjoyed and terrified of pregnancy and birth. There was so much I wasn't prepared for or didn't understand. I did not know how to find my voice or communicate what I wanted, and I was afraid of upsetting the nurses and doctors if I asked too many questions or stated my preferences. I've since learned just how essential and valued my voice could have been, and the difference a doula could have made in my births. My pregnancies and postpartum years were shaped by perinatal depression and anxiety. I needed a lot of support both physically and emotionally - so much more than I'd anticipated or wanted. And I'm so grateful that I was able to receive that support!

Why I became a doula + photographer (doulatog)

All of these experiences changed me - how I viewed myself, my body, and my perspective on families, birth, and parenting. So now, while our little family is complete, I'm not ready to be done with birth work!

I have a heart for every mama and birthing human to feel cared for, empowered, supported, and celebrated throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I want to provide you with resources to help you make informed choices that are aligned with your values. I want to create space for you to express your desires for your birth. I want to provide physical and emotional support and comfort while you labor.

When you're recovering, I'll prepare you a warm beverage and a snack, hold space for you to reflect on your birth experience, build your confidence in bathing and feeding your babe, cook a nourishing meal, and tidy up while you rest and bond as a family.

Through each step of your journey, I want to capture photographs of all the beautiful, real, amazing, and fleeting moments you'll treasure.

I would be honored to join you on your journey as your doula and photographer!
