Placenta Art Prints

starting at $150/$200 for paired prints

Placenta art prints are a wonderful way to create a memory piece for your home or nursery. Your base package will include one custom, unique art print created using the baby's side of the placenta (Tree of Life).

To create your prints, I will hand-paint directly onto your placenta using your placental blood or paints/dyes in colors of your choosing and create a pressing on high-quality, archival watercolor paper. After drying, your prints will be coated with a sealant to protect them. You can decline the sealant if you prefer.

A print of the Birther's side of the placenta can be created to create Paired Prints - meant to be displayed together - for an additional fee of $50.

Often I will create multiple impressions of your placenta to give you the best print possible. Any extra impressions may be offered to you for a small additional cost (usually around $25 each). Any prints not purchased may be kept for me to practice illustration techniques.

Your prints can be further customized with artistic or illustrative elements, such as tracings of the placental veining, adding your baby's name and birthdate, or other creative elements. If you are interested in custom illustration, naming, or framing of your prints, please contact me for a free consultation/quote based on your specific needs!

*** Please note that ingesting your placenta after it is used for printing is not recommended – even when food grade dyes are used.

FAQ

What types of paints do you use for belly painting?

I use professional, vegan, cosmetic-grade TAG® brand paints. None of my paints used for belly painting are tested on animals.

Would you come to my baby shower or blessing ceremony?

I would be honored to participate in your special events. I do ask that enough time is allotted to allow your painting to be complete during the span of your event. Please reach out to ask about special event rates and planning!

Do I have to sit for the whole time?

No! I build in plenty of time for bathroom breaks, and as long as you can stay reasonably still I can paint you while you are standing as well! If you are still concerned about the length of the session, I am happy to do a simplified design for a shorter session length!

What if the cost is a barrier for me?

If cost is a barrier for art services, I do offer a number of alternatives to the standard payment. Please reach out if you are interested in bartering for services, sliding scale fees, payment plans, or adding me to your baby registry!

When do you do the placenta prints?

For best results, I aim to create your placenta prints within 48 hours of birth. Your placenta must be kept cold but not frozen from birth until printing. I will work with you to give you details for the correct storage of your placenta until pick-up or delivery of your placenta can be arranged. Your placenta prints will then need to dry before illustration services can be completed or a sealant layer applied. Return of your final images is usually by 14 days after birth.

How do you know if my placenta will work for the print?

Every person's placenta is different! There are variations in size, the prominence of visible veining, and even the length of the cord!

Your placenta is unique and so I cannot guarantee in advance what your placental print will look like. However, your specific print will be honoring the beauty of this pregnancy and birth and the role this life-giving organ played in your journey! So it will surely be beautiful.
